In a blog post, Microsoft says the Emissions Impact Dashboard is now available on M365 in preview. It gives customers properly understand their impact on the environment through their greenhouse gas emissions when using Microsoft apps. By accessing Microsoft’s AI technology, the Emissions Impact Dashboard provides accurate accounting data for carbon usage across an organization. Admins can see the impact caused by Microsoft cloud service across the footprint of a business. With the available data (from Power BI), companies can make concise decisions about their environmental impact. Microsoft 365 organizations can measure and track their overall emissions, and perform more granular tasks like see emissions per individual user. Furthermore, admins can filter emissions by regions (data center) and how much they can improve by moving services like SharePoint to the cloud. “This data is crucial for understanding how usage of cloud services impacts emissions and is the first step in establishing a foundation to drive further decarbonization efforts,” Microsoft points out.

Cloud for Sustainability

The company says the release of EID on Microsoft 365 paves the way for its full release of Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability. In 2021 launched Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, a new vertical cloud offering. The platform helps organizations understand, measure, and manage their carbon emissions. They can also give themselves sustainability goals and gain insights on the best ways to achieve them. Microsoft plans to bring the SaaS solution to general users soon. “Down the road, we plan to make the insights produced by the Emissions Impact Dashboard available via Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability. This will help customers gain a broader understanding of their environmental impact, end-to-end,” the company adds. Tip of the day: Though many VPN providers have their own apps, you can in many cases connect to a VPN in Windows 10 without any third-party software. This is ideal if you have a self-hosted VPN or if you’re using a PC with restricted permissions. In our tutorial, we’re showing you how to connect to a VPN in Windows 10.
