Thanks to the new WSA roadmap on GitHub, we now have a resource to see what features Microsoft will bring to Windows Subsystem for Android. As the number of Android apps available on Windows surpasses 200,000 (in September), Microsoft is ramping up the development of the Windows 11 service. Alongside Android 13, Microsoft is also bringing local network access by default, picture-in-picture, and file transfers. Furthermore, the company is also adding shortcuts but does not detail exactly what this means. it seems the file transfer tool to move files between the WSA container and Windows will be included. Picture-in-picture mode will also likely make the journey to Windows 11, allowing users to run Android apps on top of Windows apps.
Roadmap
Microsoft also does not say when the new features will arrive. Even so, the WSA roadmap is a treasure trove that details what is coming to the platform and what features are already available. Google officially unveiled Android 13 in August and it seems Microsoft has been working on bringing the platform to Windows 11 through WSA. Last week, Google announced Android 13 (Go Edition), the latest version of its streamlined version of the OS. Google says Android 13 Go Edition takes the benefits of Android 13 to bring more “reliability, usability, and customization” to the Go platform. Tip of the day: Windows lets you use Cortana to translate sentences, words, or phrases, with the results read back to you automatically. This makes it particularly useful for group scenarios, but you can also type if you’re unsure about pronunciation. Cortana translation sports an impressive 40 languages and utilizes machine learning to provide natural results in many cases. Check our full guide to learn how to use Cortana for quick translations.
